Rescue Guidelines
Veterinary Facility Surrender Guidelines
Veterinary facilities are welcome to contact us if a client no longer wishes to keep their large bird (Psittacine) and the veterinarian does not want to euthanize the bird. We require the following:
- Letter of surrender signed by the client with the veterinary office.
- Up-to-date medical records, including exam, x-ray, lab work, and any medications the bird may need.
- Contagious disease panel results.
- Sample of the food the bird has been given.
- The bird’s cage, if the owner wishes to surrender it (birds transition better with their original cage).
The rescue can pick up the bird (as long as within a 2-hour drive) after arrangements are made.
Owner Surrender to the Rescue Guidelines
Owners are allowed to surrender directly to the rescue. We require the following:
- Any up-to-date medical records.
- The cage the bird was kept in.
- Food the bird was given (for the transition).
- Minimum $120.00 surrender fee/donation to cover the contagious disease panel.
Additional donations are accepted to go toward the initial vet visit. The rescue can pick up the bird (as long as within a 2-hour drive), or the owner can drop it off.
